Financial Analysis Certificate Extension Program
The Financial Analysis Certificate Extension Program (FADLEP) is a 24-hour hands-on introduction to
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming in Excel specifically for distance learning which is designed for finance professionals
who need to automate their models and applications, add custom functions or extend the user interface.
The FADLEP assumes no prior knowledge of VBA but does assume that the student has
above average knowledge and expertise in Excel, its functions, tools and features. The course is only
available to those who have already completed the Financial Analysis Certificate by Distance Learning
(FADL). It is also assumed that the student has the aptitudes for the analysis of business applications and
the design and development of business solutions.
The Financial Analysis Certificate by Distance Learning - Advanced Professional (FADLAP) is a
72-hour packaged combination of the FADL and FADLEP which is available only for distance learning study.
This is not just a more advanced form of Excel training which is the natural
step for everyone, rather it is a more challenging discipline which is in some ways parallel to the body of
knowledge presented in the FADL. If you are unsure whether the FADLEP or FADL is the appropriate course for you, we would
be happy to discuss your needs and assist you in selecting the appropriate training.
It aims to take an experienced Excel user and introduce them to all the core features of the programming language,
the programming environment and to demonstrate essential development methodologies for use in developing
Excel-based solutions.
It does not cover some of the more challenging material in the Financial Analysis
Systems Certificate (FAS) which we believe is inappropriate for the distance learning mode of
instruction. It could also be called "FAS Lite". It is however, a compromise between the demand for this
type of material from those who cannot attend in-class and what can comfortably be taught in this mode.
The courseware includes a 130+ page text together with a CD-ROM which includes the
sample files, worked solutions for most problems and some reference documents. When packages with as
the FADLAP it includes both this and the FAC 330+ page text, being more than 460 pages of material.
A detailed course outline is provided on UTS's Web Site, a link to which is included at the bottom of this page.
This course is available via distance learning for non-Sydney residents as the
Financial Analysis Certificate by Distance Learning Extension Program (FADLEP) through UTS, see Public Courses web page.

VBA is the programming language provided by Microsoft to enhance and extend the functionality of
Office applications, including Excel and the workbooks and models created with it. The routines and programs
created with VBA are often referred to as "macros".
